The original Basketball Warehouse: a concrete floor, green and yellow walls and a single hoop

Picture it: Largo, 2011

A concrete floor, one hoop and a shooting gun.

When Shorecrest Prep’s gym came down, Coach Daryl showed Coach Allen an empty warehouse. Allen looked around and said, “Wow. We can really do something with this place.” They opened in April 2011 to give kids somewhere to play and somewhere to do their homework. The rule at the door has not changed: when you walk through it, you’re family.

The Warehouse closed from October to December 2013 for a renovation paid for with community donations: a new wood court and new overhead goals. It reopened at the end of that year, and the before-and-after frames above are the club’s own photos of the change.

Who’s coaching your kid

Two college ballers in two Halls of Fame.

Coach Allen and Coach Daryl coached together at Shorecrest Prep from 2008 to 2015, the same years they built the Warehouse. They teach more than hoops: discipline, perseverance, respect and teamwork.
