Our commitment
The Basketball Warehouse Academy is a non-profit that exists to serve boys and girls of all ages, and their families. That includes the families who use this website to find a schedule, read about a program or reach a coach. We want every visitor to feel welcome and to be able to do what they came to do, whether they use a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader, a phone or a larger text size.
What we have built in
We designed this site with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level as our target. In practice, that means:
- Pages use real headings in a logical order, so screen reader users can move through a page by section.
- Photos that carry meaning have text descriptions, and purely decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- The main navigation, the menus and the dialogs can be reached and used with a keyboard alone, and a visible focus outline shows where you are.
- Text and buttons are set with colour contrast chosen to meet the AA ratios, and text scales when you enlarge it in your browser.
- Motion on the site is gentle, and it switches off if your device is set to reduce motion.
- The site does not rely on spoken video to deliver information, so there is nothing that needs captions. Key details such as schedules, contact information and program descriptions are written out as plain text.
- Forms have labelled fields and plain-language error messages.
Known limitations
Some of the older photos in the gallery and the Time Capsule come from our archive and are low resolution, so fine detail may be hard to see. The embedded map on the contact page is provided by Google and follows Google's own accessibility features, not ours. If you cannot use the map, the address is written out in plain text beside it. We review the site regularly and fix what we find, but we have not had it certified by an outside body, and we would rather say so than overstate it.
